Our Mission

We hope to serve as a sustainable free clinic that provides uninsured adults in New Haven with primary care, wellness education, and assistance in securing healthcare.

HAVEN also hopes to educate Yale health professional students about primary care and the value of working in healthcare, to allow students to gain experience in community health, and to expose students to managing patient care with limited resources.

Our Vision

Every adult living in New Haven will have access to comprehensive quality healthcare.

Students will develop a lifelong commitment to valuing social context and community needs in their future work with patients and communities.

Who We Serve

To be a patient, you must:

  1. Live in the county of New Haven

  2. Be between 18-65 years old

  3. Have no health insurance

Our existing patient population is predominantly Latino (90%) and Spanish-speaking (85%). The average age of our patients is 35 years old. However, we serve a wide variety of diverse patients who cannot afford medical care.

Many of our patients have not received medical care for at least 2-3 years prior to coming to HAVEN, and some patients have never seen a medical provider before.

How We Operate

HAVEN operates on Saturdays (9am-12pm) out of the Yale Physicians Building. Patients are seen by teams of senior and junior students with guidance from faculty preceptors. Currently, we see an average of 30 patients per week.

We are able to do this work through generous contributions from students, faculty, and philanthropic donors. We are especially fortunate to have the support of the Dr. John B. Goetsch Endowment, which has provided incredible support to the clinic for many years.
